A Little of This & That

Pride of the Prairie Quilt Guild had their show on March 8-9.  It was wonderful. So many beautiful quilts. I entered a wool applique quilt I titled "Wool Applique Happening." The pattern is Applique Affair by Edyta Sitar. Dan Kolbe did the gorgeous quilting.  It is one of my favorite quilts.

The pieced quilt I contributed was the Civil War Love Letters Quilt by Rosemary Young. I titled this quilt "For Great Grandpa Michael," dedicating it to my great grandfather who was a drummer boy in the Civil War. Cindy Krelle did the lovely quilting on this large pieced quilt.

I designed this Needle Keep called "Essence of Spring" for the ladies of the Quilty Pleasures group. We met this weekend for the most delightful retreat. We indeed enjoyed many quilty pleasures including show n tell, a shopping trip for containers for our quilty stuff, lots of food, scrumptious treats, many laughs, a little dancing, and sewing in between.

At retreat I worked on my log cabin quilt and added a center wool applique piece.  The applique pattern is from You're Invited by Blackbird Designs.

For a year, I'm teaching a monthly club at Prairie Stitches Quilt Shop. The program is called The Stitching Society and is designed by Amy McClellan from Under the Garden Moon. Each month the members receive 15 applique motifs, a project pattern, several stitch guides, a yummy recipe and stitching related history information. I demonstrate embellishment stitches and the Prairie Stitchers ladies try them out. Some months we work on one of the project patterns from the program. We made this beaded Needle Keep this month.

Members can use the motifs in any way they like. This is what I made from some of this month's motifs.

Friday Night with Friends

Cheryll from Gone Stitchin' hosts a fun event for bloggers on the first Friday of each month called Friday Night with Friends. Bloggers "meet" to spend the evening in their own homes working on the craft they enjoy. Over the weekend they post pics on their blog of what they worked on Friday night. Participants visit each others' blogs to see all the different projects. This was my first FNwF.  I completed a wool applique Pin Keep and Needle Keep that I designed titled Bring On Spring.  Thanks for hosting Cheryll.

Yikes! I can’t believe it-my first blog post. Sending many thanks to Karen from Valentine Designs for her beautiful work and her patience with me in making my blog possible. Thanks Karen! You’re wonderful!

Yesterday I took a day away from all things woolie and took a paper piecing class at Prairie Stitches Quilt Shoppe. Susan and Jill taught us all about paper piecing using the log cabin block pattern by Cindi Edgerton. I’ve paper pieced before, but never had tried tissue paper foundations. It’s fun! Here are some blocks up on my design wall. I’m already thinking of adding wool applique in the middle section. Maybe a sprinkle of flowers would work there. What do you think?
